Agricultural Farms

The Entrepreneurial
Agricultural Farm Pilot Project will enable the Eastern Cuban Baptist
Convention to start a small self-managed new farming operation in a
330-acre property owned by the Convention. The Baptists wish to
create self-sufficiency for their seminary, a satellite facility, and
a youth camp as well as helping to provide reasonable farming
products to more than 300 churches within their Convention.
Having recently
received a difficult to get permit from the Cuban government to
operate a private farm, the Convention wishes to create a pilot-farming
project, which could be replicated by other conventions and/or
seminaries. The project will also serve as an educational tool for
lay Convention Members to learn about farming accounting and
management techniques. |
This
particular pilot farming project, if successful, may be able
to be duplicated by perhaps the largest of the other Cuban
denominations, such as the Western Baptists, the Methodists, and
the Assembly of God. All of these denominations have seminaries,
camps, and a substantial number of churches.
Project
Goal and Duration: Phase II will last approximately three years. Once
this Phase of the project is completed, the farm will be producing
black beans, corn, pineapples (6.7 hectares), yerba guinea for
livestock (13.4 hectares), and various types of potatoes products,
bananas, and eggs.

Four Cuban pastors have received full
scholarships to the Seminario Internacional Teológico Bautista de
Buenos Aires, Argentina. The pastors will become candidates for
master programs in Theology. Their wives will become candidates for
degrees in Christian Music. Once they obtain their degrees they will
return to Cuba to teach at the Baptist seminary in Santiago de Cuba.
All the legalities for travel to
Argentina have been completed. The pastors and their families
urgently need funds to pay for their travel visas and the airline
tickets.

The Santiago district,
located in the south potion of the country, is one of the
poorest.
We propose to provide assistance to 50 elder adults from five different churches
located in this district.
Five churches which are not receiving any
help from anyone, will be able to provide assistance to 50 senior
adults in need, and will be able to expand their evangelical
mission. In March, 2004, over 250 persons in this district prayed
and fasted all night for these small project’s funding.

Project proposal on the production of
videos for use in raising support. Good idea, but my first
impression is that the quality of the resulting video does not
warrant the $1,750 he supposedly needs for the project.
He also gave me a proposal for
something similar to what is being done in Manzanillo in caring
for the elderly in his rural church.
This sounds more reasonable, especially
at $480/year, although I think he's shooting a bit low on that one.
Another need is the bible on CD in the
Spanish NIV format.
He proposes to burn copies and distribute
them to rural Churches then invite those who cannot read or are blind
to listen to a nightly (or weekly) audio presentation of the Bible.
